Thoughtbarn has teamed up with Poplar Development to design a mass timber prototype for Austin's residential spec market. The 3,000sf 4-bed, 3-bath home will feature cutting-edge sustainable technologies including cross-laminated timber roof and wall panels, a hydronic HVAC system and high performance insulation. The home's interior will showcase the wood surfaces of the mass timber panels, complimented by other natural finishes such as limewash paint and terracotta tile. The building is sited to take advantage of expansive views over Shoal Creek, with a terrace and adjacent carport carved out of the sloping topography in the rear. The project is aiming to achieve a 5* Austin Energy Green Building Rating.
